I admit. most of the movie news these past few weeks have all been about heroes, cars and other bits of geekdom. Today we get a breath of frssh air, as we get a glimpse of Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I live In”. I count this as great news- because Antonio Banderas is in it, and this is the kind of film the actor needs. Other than a box office hit, of course. In any case Collider gives us more:
Today a new trailer has been released that promises even more vibrant cinematography and body-stocking clad fight scenes than ever before. Even viewed in this electric guitar-backed 60-second clip, The Skin I Live In doesn’t look like anything the director has attempted before or like any other movie coming out in the next few months.
The synopsis for the movie? Glad you asked
Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig.
Hey, be careful what you wish for…! But all I know is this project looks a lot more promising than most of the dreck Bandaras has appeared in of late (I dare…double dare anyone to sit through twenty minutes of ‘The Big Bang’. I couldn’t make it past fifteen) and since this is a foreign language film, that means some North American audiences will miss it because…well, there’s no heroes, no talking cars and no wizards. Maybe Almodovar’s enough…
Whatcha think, Int’l friends?
